Youth Leadership Kearney class this month focused on Quality of Life and Relationship Building. The day began speaking to Shauna Petzold at the Kearney Recycling Center. Shauna shared the recycling program at the City of Kearney and showed us many items that travel through this recycling center.
From the recycling center, YLK went to the Kearney Family YMCA to participate in team building exercises and strengthening leadership activities. These fun and unique activities were led by Elijah Landell with Rising Tide Leadership.
Finishing the Team Building exercise at the YMCA, the class heard from Scott Hayden, KPR Director of the City of Kearney Park and Recreation department. He spoke about all of the unique programs to participate in from the Amazing Race to Co-Ed Volleyball to Puddle Ducks programs. KPR also gave some unique opportunities for seasonal employment with KPR. KPR offers many opportunities for everyone within the City of Kearney. We even got a chance to shoot a basketball during a fun, interactive game. We also heard from Courtney Burbach with the YMCA. She provided the class with a tour of the new renovations of the YMCA. Courtney gave insights into upcoming events and how the YMCA works with the Kearney community.
During lunch, the Chief Compliance Officer for UNK, Alex Straatmann spoke about the Art of Networking. Alex spoke to us about how beneficial networking and network connections can influence our everyday lives. Networking with individuals in all parts of our lives can greatly enhance our relationships.
As Alex finished his presentation, Brenda Jochum came back for her final time meeting with us, reviewing our Clifton Strengths. Clifton Strengths was a great program, enabling us to find our strengths and utilize them in our classes, jobs, in a team setting, and in life in general.
Class 30 finished their day touring the City of Kearney Wastewater Treatment Facility east of Kearney on Cherry Avenue. Lance Kwiatkowski, wastewater treatment manager, explained to the class how wastewater for the City of Kearney is treated and reclaimed back into the water table.
Thank you to all of the presenters who presented information to us, and the facilities who allowed us to tour their locations for our last session day as Youth Leadership Kearney Class 30!
