I am incredibly excited to be serving as the 2022-2023 President of the Leadership Kearney Board of Directors. Our Board is filled with energized members committed to taking our program to the next level and I feel privileged to be a part of this growth.
This past April, we held a Board Retreat which allowed us to take a deep look at where the program has come from and where it is headed. Exceptional ideas came from that retreat and we have been hard at work implementing those ideas into action while staying loyal to the rich history of the program.
Perhaps the most substantial change you will see to the organization is with the Youth program. Historically, Youth Leadership Kearney (YLK) has been offered to high school Juniors and has run concurrent with the adult program. Our Board recognized an opportunity to provide youth with a more individualized program aimed at assisting them in gaining skills and knowledge that will help them become even more successful as they navigate the end of their high school career and begin their journey into adulthood. This program will now run during the spring semester of the participants’ Junior year and conclude in the fall semester of their Senior year. Participants will continue to experience some of the traditional sessions such as State Government Day, but new sessions such as “Career Exploration” and “Quality of Life & Relationship Building” will be added to the program. We want to sincerely thank Kearney Public Schools and Kearney Catholic Schools for assisting in this transition.
We are also working to improve the adult program by expanding upon the leadership trainings offered to participants during each session throughout the year. Another change many are excited for is a new venue for the retreat.
The Board will continue to host many of the same successful events that we have for years such as our annual golf tournament, the blood drive, a business after hours, and alumni engagement events. We would love to see you at these events! Please keep an eye on our website and our Facebook page for updates on upcoming events. If you have not already paid your alumni dues- now would be an excellent time to do so. This money helps us host socials and provide programming to alumni.
Finally, on behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I want to sincerely thank all of the wonderful businesses and individuals who sustain our program with donations of time, funds, space, and support. We simply could not continue to provide this exceptional program without you.
